Play Design: SimCity, Simulation, and Geology

Interactive media and games increasingly pervade and shape our society. In addition to their dominant roles in entertainment, video games play growing roles in education, arts, science and health. This seminar series brings together a diverse set of experts to provide interdisciplinary perspectives on these media regarding their history, technologies, scholarly research, industry, artistic value and potential future.

Join us every Friday until March 13th from 12pm-1pm in Shriram 104.

Chaim Gingold

Chaim Gingold, Play Design: SimCity, Simulation, and Geology. Chaim is a computer scientist and interactive designer by training. By trade, he is a computer game designer and digital toymaker. He studied with Janet Murray at Georgia Tech, where he earned an MS in Digital Media. As a key member of Spore’s prototyping and design team, Gingold worked closely with Will Wright at Maxis/EA, designing the game’s award winning creative tool suite. Currently, he is wrapping up development on Earth Primer , an interactive geology book that teaches through play; works as an independent game developer and design consultant; is completing a PhD at UC Santa Cruz on design, computation, and play; and works at the the Communications Design Group / SAP Labs.
