Finnish enterprise organization Tekes joins Media X

OCTOBER 14, 2005. Media X welcomes new Affiliate Partner Tekes, the main public funding organisation for research and development in Finland. Tekes funds industrial projects as well as projects in research organisations, and especially promotes innovative, risk-intensive projects. Tekes offers partners from abroad a gateway to the key technology players in Finland.

In 2004, Tekes granted EUR 409 million to 2,242 R&D projects with a total budget of close to EUR 800 million. About a half of Tekes' funding went to corporate projects, and the rest to universities, research institutes, and polytechnics. The public research projects completed in 2004 generated over 2,451 scientific publications, 999 academic theses and nearly 150 patent applications or patents.

Most projects are conducted as joint collaboration between several companies, universities, polytechnics and research institutes. Almost 40 per cent of the projects involved international cooperation and slightly under a half were associated with technology programs launched by Tekes. 

In addition to its headquarters in Helsinki, Tekes has technology units at 14 regional Employment and Economic Development Centres (known as the T&E Centres) throughout Finland. The main aim of these centers is to keep close to the entrepreneurs and innovative talent across Finland. Tekes also has six offices abroad: Beijing, Brussels, Tokyo, San Jose, CA, Shanghai, and Washington D.C.
