New Media X initiative on human interaction and sensing
May 10, 2006. What if we could automatically detect how well someone comprehends information presented on a computer screen from the emotions he or she display? What if we could develop a smart home care network using a network of image sensors? What if human and robots could work together to perform a variety of difficult or tedious tasks? What if we can take the vital elements of a repeatable, powerful golf swing, and translate these elements into training tool?
These are just a few of the questions that Stanford researchers will explore though projects funded in Media X’s latest initiative focusing on human-machine interaction and sensing. Research topics can range on the detection or sensing of human comprehension, emotional states, gesture or touch.
As part of the initiative, Media X put out the call for research proposals (RFP) to Stanford researchers. The RFP is the tenth to be issued since Media X was established.
The RFP is just one of the evident, campus wide mechanisms Media X uses to support interdisciplinary research that addresses questions of real importance to both academia and industry that involve people, technology and innovation.
