Never before has virtual reality felt so real. The technology is now reaching a turning point as immersive technologies are becoming affordable and accessible to all. On November 16, 2015 mediaX at Stanford University hosted a conference on “The Experience of Immersion” to delve into this field. Stanford, and the Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL) in particular, has a long history with virtual reality (VR). Today, the number of Stanford professors and students exploring this technology has reached critical mass.

VR is a compelling and disruptive medium with an enormous array of applications: immersive workspaces, education, health care, entertainment, culture and more. The conference presents a diverse set of uses with speakers and exhibitors coming from academia as well as the industry.
