Never before has virtual reality felt so real. The technology is now reaching a turning point as immersive technologies are becoming affordable and accessible to all. On November 16, 2015 mediaX at Stanford University hosted a conference on “The Experience of Immersion” to delve into this field. Stanford, and the Virtual Human Interaction Lab (VHIL) in particular, has a long history with virtual reality (VR). Today, the number of Stanford professors and students exploring this technology has reached critical mass.

VR is a compelling and disruptive medium with an enormous array of applications: immersive workspaces, education, health care, entertainment, culture and more. The conference presents a diverse set of uses with speakers and exhibitors coming from academia as well as the industry. Thought leaders Jeremy Bailenson, Renate Fruchter, Jianming Dong, Gordon Wetzstein, Doug James, Jay Borenstein, along with Industry and Graduate Student Panels provide keys to create VR content and give a glimpse to the future of immersive technologies.
