Virtual Espionage: GCHQ and NSA take on MMOs

Interactive media and games increasingly pervade and shape our society. In addition to their dominant roles in entertainment, videogames play growing roles in education, arts, science and health. These talks bring together a diverse set of experts to provide interdisciplinary perspectives on these media regarding their history, technologies, scholarly research, industry, artistic value and potential future. As the speakers and title suggest, the series also provides a topical lens for the diverse aspects of our lives.

Peter Krapp

Peter Krapp, Virtual Espionage: GCHQ and NSA take on MMOs. Are massively multiplayer online games and virtual worlds potential havens for activities that require a response in the name of national security? Peter Krapp is Professor of Film & Media / Visual Studies and a member of the Departments of English and of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine. Peter Krapp taught at the University of Minnesota, and at Bard College, before coming to UC Irvine, where he he helped start a Computer Game Science Major.
