Stanford Research Centers within Media X
Media X provides an industry portal to departments and centers at Stanford University that study people and technology--from engineering and computer science to psychology, linguistics, education, and art. Collaborators in Media X conduct an extensive range of established projects and are developing new interdisciplinary projects that will influence the next generation of information science and technology innovation.
Much of the motivation for creating Media X came from the realization
that, spread across the Stanford campus was one of the richest pools of
intellectual talent anywhere in the world, all working on aspects of new
technology. Before we created Media X, the only way to see all of this
activity at a single glance was to fly over the campus at 10,000 feet.
(See the Media X campus map.)
The Media X network brings
all of this diverse activity into a single whole, giving Stanford researchers
a mechanism for keeping in touch with one another, and providing industry
with a single portal to a broad and constantly growing range of research
about the design and use of technology. Because of its collaborative and inherently flexible nature, Media X is able
to respond rapidly, and with little cost, to changes in technology or
in the marketplace, drawing on one of the richest pools of intellectual
talent in the world.
Media X funds research projects across the campus. Departments and centers
associated with Media X, in which Media X sponsored projects may be carried
out, include:

Media X has research facilities in the new Wallenberg
Hall on the campus' central quadrangle, which offers configurable
research and prototyping spaces, instrumented classrooms, and digital
performance areas, as well as office space for Media X visitors and partners. Conference facilities and office space for Media X are available in
Wallenberg Hall, Cordura Hall and Nora Suppes Hall. The main administration for Media X is housed in Wallenberg Hall.
