Dates: October 1, 2009

Organizers:

Description:
Explore and experience hands-on the current and future frontiers of interactive work places and spaces that leverage mixed media and mixed realities in support of remote collaboration. Beyond high-definition video and large displays lurks a plethora of remote-presence and ubiquitous computing applications that are increasingly valuable in creating a sense of "being there" and “co-action.”  This workshop continues the exploration of collaboration technologies as they are integrated and start to form an ecosystem that links collocated, remote, and mobile knowledge workers, including telepresence, telepresence robots and avatars, sensors and control, mobile devices, interactive rooms, physical and virtual team neighborhoods. Optimizing the use of interactive, globally connected workplaces and the nuances of innovative technologies can improve collaboration, increase team productivity and well-being, and decrease the corporate CO2 footprint.

We will visit high-end telepresence suites and see technologies emerging from local start-ups and labs. We will engage in hands-on experiences with collaborative technologies. You will hear from companies and researchers in the forefront of remote collaboration technologies and experiences. We will explore the myths, needs, challenges, and opportunities of remote collaboration.
